Dental sealants are\u00a0thin, plastic coatings painted onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to prevent tooth decay. They are especially important for children, as their new molars are particularly susceptible to cavities. The sealant creates a protective barrier over the deep pits and grooves of the teeth, where food particles and bacteria often become trapped and are difficult for a toothbrush to reach.<\/p>
