Dental Exams & Cleaning
For infants, children, adolescents and children with special health care needs, dental cleanings and exams focus on monitoring their oral development, preventing dental caries in primary dentition, mixed dentition and permanent dentition and establishing positive associations with dental care.
What to expect during your children’s dental exam and cleaning:
- Dr. Noguera using a small dental mirror, count and examine the teeth, the surrounding tissues, and the maxillary and mandibular jaw. For infants, the exam is completed on the parent's lap.
- A Dental assistant gently cleans the teeth using a small, rubber prophy cup and prophy paste to remove dental plaque.
- A Dental assistant will take x-rays for 4 years old and older to check for cavities between teeth and panoramic x-ray to rule out dental anomalies.
- A flavored fluoride varnish is often applied to the teeth to strengthen the enamel and make it more resistant to dental caries.
